01
Muscat – Wadi Bani Awf – Jebel Shams
Arrival at the airport, visit to the Grand Mosque commissioned by Sultan Qaboos, which began construction in 1995 and was completed in 2001. It can accommodate up to 20,000 worshippers, with 7,000 inside and the rest in the outer area. The modern Islamic architecture is reflected in the stunning prayer hall, thanks to its rich decorations; the dome, the crystal chandelier, and the 4,200 sqm Persian carpet woven by 600 women over four years. The porticos are completely adorned with mosaics donated by various countries.
Departure heading northwest towards the Hajar mountain range, with its spectacular scenery and peaks reaching 3,000 meters. The road gradually climbs through Wadi Bani Awf, with rock walls displaying beautiful color tones and bizarre formations; picnic lunch in the wadi. Continuing, reach a pass over 2,000 meters, with a beautiful view of the Hajar mountain range. Arrival at Jebel Shams in the afternoon, dinner, and overnight stay at the resort.
02
Jebel Shams – Nizwa – Sharqiyah Sands
Nizwa, the “Pearl of Islam,” is situated in a plain surrounded by a lush palm oasis. Visit the 17th-century fort and the souk, where you can find food products, animals, and handicrafts. The date souk is particularly characteristic, offering the chance to taste the numerous varieties of dates grown here.
After the visits, drive approximately two hours to the village of Mintrib. Lunch at a restaurant. Leaving the paved road, arrive at the edge of the desert among the pink and orange-hued dunes of Sharqiyah Sands, also known as Wahiba Desert. The name derives from the most important Bedouin tribe that has inhabited this desert for centuries, where numerous water wells allow them to raise flocks of goats and camels. Dinner and overnight stay in a charming Bedouin-style tented camp.
03
Wahiba – Barr Al Hikman
Continue across vast salt flats leading to the coast, traveling just meters from the waves on white sandy beaches where myriad birds take flight as vehicles pass by. Reach the beautiful Barr Al Hikman Peninsula. Dinner and overnight stay in the mobile tented camp.
04
Barr Al Hikman – Masirah
After breakfast, depart westwards to reach the ferry that will take you to Masirah Island in about an hour. The island, approximately 70 km long and 18 km wide, is located 20 km from the coast and is surrounded by beautiful white sandy beaches; it is arid and pristine. Home to about 800 people, it is a true paradise for birdwatchers, shell enthusiasts, and snorkeling lovers.
Inhabited since ancient times, Alexander the Great established a base here for his vast empire, calling it Serepsis. During World War II, the British used it as a military base, and later, during the Gulf War, the United States used it as an airbase.
Between June and September, thousands of turtles come to lay their eggs along the beaches, completing the natural cycle that culminates in the hatching of the eggs and the hatchlings reaching the sea.
Accommodation in a hotel, dinner, and overnight stay at the hotel.

After dinner, take an excursion to the Ras Al Jinz Nature Reserve, a nesting area for green turtles where, with a bit of luck, you may observe these magnificent animals laying their eggs and the hatchlings emerging and racing towards the sea.
