The modern Islamic architecture is reflected in the beautiful prayer hall thanks to the richness of the decorations; the dome, the crystal chandelier and the 4,200m2 Persian carpet that 600 women hand-woven for 4 years. The porticoes are completely decorated with mosaics from and donated by various countries. Lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon, external visit to the Sultan’s palace, the national museum and the Mutrah souk. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.

01

Muscat – Wadi Bani Awf – Jebel Shams

Departure in a North West direction, towards the Hajar mountain range, with spectacular scenery, with peaks reaching 3000 m. The road gradually climbs through the Wadi Bani Awf, with rock walls with splendid shades of color and bizarre morphology; picnic lunch in the wadi. Continuing, you reach a pass of over 2000 m., with a beautiful view of the Hajar mountain range. Descending on the opposite side you reach the typical village of Al Hamra, with typical houses in beaten earth, which after being abandoned, is gradually being repopulated.
Arrival at Jebel Shams in the afternoon, dinner and overnight stay in a Resort.

02

Jebel Shams – Misfat Al Abriyeen

In the morning, after a short transfer by car, you will take a walk to admire the splendid canyon with its particular rock formations that the atmospheric elements have shaped over time. Furthermore, if it is deemed appropriate, you can enjoy a beautiful walk in the wadi Ghul seen from above previously. Lunch in a local restaurant. We continue in the afternoon, to reach the suggestive village of Misfath al Abriyeen, with small plots of cultivated land and reached, each, by a water channel. Dinner and overnight stay in a traditional house used as a hotel.

03

Misfat Al Abriyeen – Nizwa

After leaving Misfat Al Abriyeen, a drive of about one hour brings us to the Jabreen Fort/Castle, known for its distinctive architecture, decorated ceilings, and its former roles as a madrasa (Quranic school) and, most likely, an astronomical observation center. In Bahla, from a panoramic viewpoint, we’ll admire the imposing structure of the fort. Lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, visit to Nizwa Fort, probably the most important in the country and once the residence of the Imam in past centuries. Dinner at a restaurant and overnight stay in a traditional house converted into a hotel.

04

Nizwa – Sharqiyah Sands
(approx. 220 km total – of which 40 km in desert between track and dunes)

Nizwa, the “Pearl of Islam”, stands on a plain surrounded by a thick oasis of palm trees. Visit the souq and the 17th century fort, home and residence for many years of the Imam. After the visits, you reach the village of Mintrib in about two hours of road. Lunch in a restaurant. After leaving the asphalt road you arrive at the gates of the desert among the pink and orange dunes of the Sharqiyah Sands, also known as the Wahiba desert. The name comes from the most important Bedouin tribe that has inhabited this desert for centuries, where thanks to the numerous water wells, they can raise flocks of goats and camels. Dinner and overnight stay in a charming fixed camp.

05

Wahiba – Big Dune

A full day dedicated to the desert, reaching in the afternoon the largest dunes of Wahiba Sands (Big Dune). Picnic.

In the afternoon you continue crossing large salt flats that lead to the coast, traveling on the beach a few meters from the waves, where myriads of birds take flight as the cars pass. You then reach the beautiful peninsula of Barr Al Hikman. Dinner and overnight stay in the mobile comfort camp.

07

Barr Al Hikamn – Ras Al Hadd

In the morning, after a very pleasant walk along the deserted beach,
we continue with the cars along the coast along pink beaches, a color given by the presence of millions of shell fragments.
After lunch in a local restaurant, we will get back on the road that will take us to Ras Al Hadd, the easternmost tip of the Arabian Peninsula; accommodation in a nice resort with bungalows on the beach.
After dinner, excursion to the Ras Al Jinz Nature Reserve, a breeding area for green turtles where, with a bit of luck, it will be possible to observe the splendor of animals that lay their eggs and the little turtles that are born and run towards the sea. After the visit, lasting a couple of hours, return to the resort and overnight stay.

08

Ras El Hadd – Sur –Wadi Tiwi -Muscat
(about 240 km of paved road)

From Ras al Hadd a beautiful road crosses a series of stony hills that leads to Sur, about forty kilometers.
